Four tall, dark stone slabs set on a mossy forest floor, each engraved with softly glowing golden text: ‘A solid and consistently dependable vocal technique,’ ‘Knowing who you are, from the inside out,’ ‘Having a destination and a solid plan to get there,’ and ‘Maintaining personal accountability in all areas of your life.’

How Long Have You Been "Almost Ready?"

For aspiring singers, a successful career isn't just about talent; it's about building an unshakable foundation. The "AriaReady Process" outlines four essential cornerstones that provide an "unshakable base for your foundation" for vocal strengths and overall career success.

I’m going to begin this month’s blog by asking you a question I learned from a guy up in Vancouver, named Steve Dotto. Steve teaches tech to Gen X and Boomers.

The question is this:

Which of the Evil Twins has been sabotaging your progress?

For decades, here in North America, but especially since the Pandemic, singers have been haunted by two insidious forces that derail their potential:

Imposter Syndrome: The voice whispering "You're not good enough" that causes you to over-prepare, overthink, and often under-deliver. It's why so many singers remain forever "almost ready."

Fear of Failure: That paralyzing dread ingrained in you since childhood when mistakes were punished, not labeled as feedback or learning opportunities.

These twins aren't just minor annoyances—they're the primary reason why many talented, experienced individuals, and even those with connections, often fail to realize the full potential of their success. This isn't your fault.

Most of us, since we were children, were taught to play it safe. To aim for security over possibility, and judge ourselves harshly for every misstep.

But what if there were a place specifically designed to help you overcome these barriers? A community that not only understands exactly what you're fighting against because we've fought it too, but also stands with you in this battle?

The question for you isn't whether you have what it takes.

The question is whether you'll give yourself the power to prove it. The power to move from “almost ready to “Being Ready.”

So, when you're asked at any stage of your career, “Are You Ready?”

You can answer with a solid, “Yes. “Yes, I AM Ready!”

To help you break Free From The Evil Twins, I want to introduce you to a proven process for building your personal career roadmap.

The Four Cornerstones of the AriaReady Process

AriaReady Cornerstones.
Definition of cornerstones: An indispensable anchoring point that provides stability and purpose.
  1. A solid and consistently dependable vocal technique.
  2. Knowing who you are, from the inside out.
  3. Having a destination and a solid plan to get there.
  4. Maintaining personal accountability in all areas of your life.

So, let me ask you… What do you think ties these four seemingly distinct cornerstones together? What is the common denominator?”

Relationships, that’s what!

"Relationships, and how you create and maintain them!". The ease of your journey along your career path significantly depends on the "strength & quality of all your relationships".

Relationships in Action Across the Cornerstones:

To truly master your vocal journey and life, the AriaReady process highlights these critical areas:

  1. A solid and consistently dependable vocal technique. This is the absolute prerequisite, as "without a solid vocal technique, the other three are… well, only preparing you for something else".
  2. Knowing who you are, from the inside out. This involves deep self-awareness, crucial for an artist's identity, permission, and confidence.
  3. Having a destination and a solid plan to get there. Clear goals and a strategic roadmap are essential guidelines for managing your relationships with others.
  4. Maintaining personal accountability in all areas of your life. The ease of your travel along your career path depends not only on you, but also on the strength & quality of all your relationships. This also speaks to discipline and responsibility that extend beyond your craft.

By understanding and actively managing these core relationships across each of the four AriaReady cornerstones, you can build an incredibly strong and sustainable foundation for your life and career.

Your Next Step: Reflect & Act!

Take a moment to reflect on the strength of your relationships across these four cornerstones. Consider this exercise:

  • Pick one cornerstone (We recommend you start with number one)
  • Identify the key relationship(s), the Teacher or the character that sings the aria you're currently working on.
  • Think about one small, actionable step you can take this week to strengthen that particular relationship.

Remember, the ease of your career path depends on the quality of your relationships.
