You need to ask yourself some key questions before you put a plan in place to start your business as a performer. You may, up to this point, never have considered looking at your talent as a product or service, but when using these words, it helps take the emotion out of the equation, so you can see it for what it is. Not only to you, but to those that might hire you. You need to answer the key question that is on their minds, “What’s in it for me to hire this person?”

Here are some pertinent questions to ask yourself and write down your answers as you go.

  1. What exactly is my product or service?
  2. Who exactly is my customer?
  3. Why does my customer buy this product or service?
  4. What is it that makes my product or service more beneficial than that of others?
  5. Why is it that my prospective customer buys from someone else?
  6. What value does he or she perceive in buying from someone else?
  7. What one thing must my customer be convinced of to buy from me rather than others?

Once you have a better, more truthful handle on your product or service, it’s easier to create a more personalized plan of action, which might also contain remedies for some of the flaws and shortcomings you noticed in answering these questions. Wouldn’t it be nice to make that your plan of action before you put your product or service on the market?

You must do the work starting now. You must understand that your commitment to great work ethics plus making this work the priority over just about everything else in your life to succeed is almost always difficult to get your mind around, but this is what it takes. You have to eat, sleep, dream, and make it your #1 commitment above all else until you’re having a solid career.  And even then, where you want to go and how to get there is up to you. Avanti!!
